Connor Camuso-Sullivan will always remember his 18th birthday as the Post 89 rookie was a force on Wednesday in leading his team to a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory against Weymouth. Camuso-Sullivan not only broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the 6th with a clutch, RBI single, but he also came out of the bullpen to pitch 3 brilliant innings of relief, to earn the victory!
Weymouth Post 79 had handed Stoughton an opening day loss two weeks ago, scoring 3 times in the bottom of the 7th for the walk-off win. They picked up right where they left off, scoring 3 times in the first two innings to take a 3-2 lead. After spotting Weymouth those early runs, Stoughton's Justin Hutchinson settled down and cruised through the next 2 innings to keep the score 3-2. Connor Camuso-Sullivan was tasked to relieve Hutchinson, and after working around a one out double in the 5th, was in control the rest of the way.
Meanwhile, the Weymouth pitchers were keeping Stoughton hitters at bay. After yielding 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, Weymouth pitchers didn't allow more than one base runner to reach base in any of the next 4 innings. That all changed in the bottom of the 6th though, as Zach Gibb and Pat Raeke each singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Justin Hutchinson followed with a single to right field to plate Gibb with the tying run. Two outs later, pitcher Connor Camuso-Sullivan, ripped a single to right field to score Raeke with what would prove to be the winning run. Camuso-Sullivan then shut the door in the top of the 7th to seal Post 89's 4-3 victory.
"Connor (Camuso-Sullivan) had a break out game," praised Post 89 Manager, Jim Derochea. "He's one of the new additions to the team this year and early in the season, we felt he had been pressing a little too much. He's begun to relax and play his game and tonight, he showed what kind of player he is!"
Zach Gibb was 3 for 3 with an RBI and Justin Hutchinson went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Other Post89'ers contributing hits were Pat Jackman, Mike Gallagher and Pat Raeke who also had an RBI.
Post 89 improved to 5-4 on the season and will travel to Canton on Thursday to play Post 24 at Canton High School.
