If students wish, they can also enroll in the ServSafe Food Safety Management Preparation course at additional cost. This class, which meets for four sessions on Wednesday nights between Sept. 10 and October 15 for a total of 12 hours, covers the importance of food safety, personal hygiene, time and temperature control, cross contamination, cleaning and sanitizing, food preparation, receiving and storing food, and other related topics.
The EKG Technician course is also new. This class, which is scheduled to meet for ten sessions from 6 to 10 pm on Wednesdays from Sept. 10 to Dec. 10, will cover topics such as heart anatomy and physiology, diseases of the heart, operating and adjusting EKG monitors, Holter monitors, pacemaker rhythms, reading and interpretation of EKG recordings, and communication with physicians and medical staff.
EMT Certification is available. This class, which is slated to meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 9 to Jan. 29 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm, is approved by the Dept. of Public Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services, and will train students to meet all requirements for certification as a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician. Once you are nationally certified, you can apply for Massachusetts State Certification.
Program requirements: You must be a high school graduate or have a GED to take the EMT program. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to take the national certification exam. One hundred percent class attendance is mandatory. This is a national/state requirement and cannot be circumvented. Any missed classes must be made up by the end of the program in order to take the National Practical and written exam.
