School Committee Approves New School Calendar

This September, students will return to school after Labor Day.

The School Committee recently approved the 2016-17 calendar, which has teachers returning on Sept. 6 and students starting on Sept. 7. This year, Labor Day is on Sept. 5.

The last day of school will be June 21, 2017. If all five snow days are used, the last day becomes June 28.

The proposal, which was endorsed by the Stoughton Teachers Association, won out over a second proposal where teachers would have returned on Sept. 1 and students on Sept. 5. The last day would have been June 20 with no snow days and 27 if all the snow days were used.

The final vote was 4-1 with Molly Cochran supporting option two.
