Selectmen Approve New Cedar Hills Concessionaire

STOUGHTON, MA — After years of struggles with finding a concessionaire, Cedar Hills Golf Course has a new company in charge of serving the meals.

The Stoughton Board of Selectmen voted Tuesday night to approve Malone Catering as the golf club’s new concessionaire. Operated by Martin Malone, the company has experience operating at golf clubs in Sharon, Needham, Norfolk, and Westwood.

“This is his career. He’s very good at it, he’s been successful wherever he’s done it,” Town Manager Michael Hartman said.

Malone takes over a golf course that has been in desperate need of a new concessionaire, Selectman Peter Brown was concern that the lease was a no-cost lease for the first year, but Hardman said that was the reality of not having a concessionaire.

Malone said he is hoping to offer lunch and dinner and some concession services. Small events of 30-40 people will be welcomed and worked around the golf clientele.

“We’re going to give effort to every aspect. We’re going to to have golfers as one aspect of the business, our caterers are going to cater, we’re going to do small parties, I think we should be open to the community,” Malone told the board.

Vice-chair Robert Cohn welcomed the prospect of the catering company coming to the town’s golf course.

“This place has been empty for god knows how many years. We put it out to bid, we had our problems, we finally have I think a legit person to come in here. The golfing just showed a profit, could you imagine if we had a concession?” Cohn said.

Malone said he will need about six weeks to open once he gets into the building.
