“A Smile Says A Lot More Than Words,” Local Orthodontist Says

August is Romance Awareness Month

ro·mance rōˈmans,ˈrōˌmans/ noun a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love.

Romance can happen at any time, but did you know that August is National Romance Awareness Month? And the second week in August is National Smile Week?

Being aware of and adding more romance into your relationship can be a win-win for both you and your significant other. Romance has always been a very important part of relationships. Sometimes it is the little things that make a big difference, such as holding a hand, rubbing a shoulder, bringing flowers, going out for dinner, writing a note, watching a movie together.

But in a survey by the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) of which Dr. Andrew Chase of ARCH Orthodontics is a long-time member, nice teeth and a great smile can also contribute to a romantic relationship:

  • 77% of women think crooked teeth are worse than a receding hairline in a potential love interest.
  • Surveys show people with straight teeth are 57% more likely to get a date AND that almost 40% of people would not go on a second date with someone who has crooked teeth.
  • 22% of those who are unhappy with their smile think that better teeth would lead to a better love life.

What if you could improve your romantic life with an almost invisible magic weapon: Braces! Today, thanks to new technologies, techniques and treatments, braces can be nearly invisible and more comfortable. And in some cases, a highly-trained Orthodontist working with 21st century devices can shorten time in braces by up to 50%. Dr. Chase says a great smile develops trust, builds self-confidence, and can even lead to more laughter when you’re not embarrassed by crooked or stained teeth or poor spacing. About 30% of today’s braces patients are adults.

Dr. Chase says, “Perhaps knowing that this is Romance Awareness Month will inspire some people to consider finally taking care of teeth straightening, crowding, spacing or ‘bite’ issues that have made them uncomfortable or self-conscious for a long time.” Improved alignment can also help improve oral hygiene and prevent gum disease, he adds. Sometimes TMJ disorder is the result of malocclusion that braces can address.

He says, “We urge anyone who wants a dramatically new smile – that can help begin or build a romantic relationship -- to make an appointment today at one of our 9 offices – Call (781) 209-6776.” ARCH, the Official Orthodontist of Miss Massachusetts, offers free initial consultation (a $500 value) and interest-free financing.
