St. James and Immaculate Conception Appear on Nationally Televised Mass

Fr. Mazzone and parishioners appear on nationally televised Mass

WATERTOWN, Mass. (June 11, 2015) - The daily Catholic Mass was celebrated at the Watertown studios of CatholicTV in the Chapel of Holy Cross.


Father Joseph Mazzone of Saint James and Immaculate Conception Parishes in Stoughton presided at today’s daily Mass in honor of the feast of St. Barnabas. Fr. Mazzone was joined by parishioners of Immaculate Conception, including lector, Kathleen Rudnicki and altar server, Barbra Sferrazza.


St. Barnabas, known in the New Testament, was born a Jew and lived among early Christian converts in Jerusalem. He was most known for persuading communities to accept Paul as a disciple by making three missionary journeys to Cyprus, Perga and Antioch. St. James and Immaculate Conception are two Roman Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese of Boston. Immaculate Conception parish under the direction of Fr. Gunn built the “St. James Chapel” in 1943 as a chapel for children. The congregation of St. James grew and as a result, Richard Cardinal Cushing purchased 20 acres of land to create an independent St. James Parish in 1962. In 2012 Immaculate Conception and St. James were selected as two out of forty parishes to become a part of the new collaborative in the Archdiocese. Father Mazzone grew up in Cumberland, R.I. and attended the University of Notre Dame, followed by a professional career in the human services industry. He entered Blessed John XXIII Seminary and was ordained into the priesthood May 24, 2008. His deacon internship was served at St, John the Evangelist in Winthrop. He later went on to serve as the parochial vicar at the Sacred Heart Parish in Weymouth, as well as pastor at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Hull.
