State Gives Stoughton High School Level 2 Status

The report from the DESE indicates that the school is not meeting gap narrowing goals.

STOUGHTON, MA — A new report has Stoughton High School in the second tier of schools in the state.

In their latest report, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education gave the school level 2 status for not meeting gap narrowing goals. Overall, the school scored an 80 out of 99 on the Cumulative Progress and Performance Index, but earned a 63 for high needs students and 60 for students with disabilities. A 75 or higher indicates that the school met their goals for narrowing proficiency gaps.

Schools in the state and districts are classified into five levels with one being the highest and five being the lowest. Other schools in the district were not assigned an accountability and assistant level because they took part in the next generation MCAS exam.

The school's overall performance relative to similar schools was a 47 out of 99.

The progress and performance index combines information about narrowing proficiency gaps, growth, and graduation and dropout rates over multiple years into a single number, according to the DESE. All districts, schools, and student subgroups receive an annual PPI based on improvement over a two-year period and a cumulative score based on four years of data. For a group to be considered to be making progress toward narrowing proficiency gaps, its cumulative PPI must be 75 or higher.
