Stoughton Coronavirus Update: Cases Rise To 112
Stoughton has seen the number of new coronavirus cases in town double since Monday. There are now 112 cases.
STOUGHTON, MA — There are 112 positive cases of the new coronavirus in Stoughton as of Thursday afternoon, according to the latest numbers from local health officials.
Town Manager Robin Grimm Muksian emphasized the continued importance of social distancing as the virus is expected to hit its peak soon.
"This serves as a reminder of the importance of sticking with protocols on distancing," Grimm said in a statement. "We will likely peak/plateau in the upcoming week or two. Hang in there, we will get through this."

The number of cases continues to rise across the county and state, and additional measures to stem its spread continue to be implemented. As of Wednesday afternoon, there were almost 17,000 cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Of those cases, 1,778 were in Norfolk County.

Grimm said employees at Town Hall began wearing mask starting Tuesday. Stoughton health officials said this comes as a recommendation from the CDC.
"The goal of the masks isn't to stop a person from contracting the virus as only the special N-95 masks are rated to prevent the virus from coming in, but rather to prevent those of us who may be carrying it asymptomatically from spreading it when we talk, breath, etc," Grimm said in a statement.
Grimm suggested residents check online for creative ways to make masks for those that don't have them.

What started as a tongue-in-cheek social commentary on people's behavior surrounding the coronavirus is now raising money to help doctors battle the disease around the world.
Steven Leahy, former president of the Stoughton Art Association, painted one of his latest works on toilet paper and is raffling it off to benefit Doctors Without Borders.
