Stoughton High Track Athletes Compete at National Championships

Four Black Knights recently took part in the sprint medley relay at the Nike Outdoor National meet.

A group of Stoughton track and field athletes represented the school on the national level this weekend.

Clifton Gerring, David Lockhart, Jordan Taylor, and Jason Marshall raced at the Nike Outdoor National Championships held at Aggie Stadium at North Caroline A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C.

The four competed in the 1,600 sprint medley, finishing 25th overall in the event with a time of 3:44.44.

The four-person relay event consists of a 400, a pair of 200s, and an 800.

To run in the event, teams must run a time equal or faster than 3:35.00. The Black Knights earned the qualifier at the Division 3 State Relays in May with a time of 3:33.56.

The race caps off what has been a solid season for the four Stoughton athletes. During the postseason, Gerring finished fifth in the 100 dash at the Division 3 East meet with middle distance runner Lockart earning a first place finish in the 800 at the same meet. Jason Marshall also finished in 10th place in the 400 at the divisional meet.

Lockhart finished sixth in the 800 at the All-State meeting, earning a trip to the New England meet.
