Stoughton Native Named New Dawe Elementary School Principal

STOUGHTON, MA — When students at Dawe Elementary School return to school this fall, there will be a new principal to greet them.

Robert Cancellieri, a fifth grade teacher at the Gibbons Elementary School, was introduced to the school committee Tuesday as the school’s new principal. He succeeds David Barner, who is leaving the school district at the end of the school year.

“I’m extremely passionate about this opportunity, it’s a dream come true,” Cancellieri told the school committee. “I know I have some big shoes to fill, I’m looking forward to the hard work and making this town proud.”

Superintendent Marguerite Rizzi said the process to find the next principal was very competitive, noting that Cancellieri came out on top at every stage of the hiring process.

Cancellieri, a Stoughton native, starts his new job July 1.
