The following are obituaries for Stoughton residents or those with Stoughton ties for the week of June 4: Joao R. Sousa; Filomena B. (Braga) Sousa; Sidney H. Katzman; and Eleanor G. York.

Joao R. Sousa
Joao R. Sousa, 93, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Thursday, June 14, 2012 peacefully at the West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Filomena B. (Braga) Sousa, who passed away six days ago.
Born and educated in Portugal, he moved to Stoughton in 1971. Mr. Sousa was a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Sousa is survived by his loving children, Manuel Sousa and his wife, Ines, Jose Sousa and his wife, Rosa, Rosa Bairos and her husband, Jose and Maria Sousa and her husband, Joe all of Stoughton and Irene Figueiredo and her husband Jose of Florida.
He is also survived by his five cherished grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the , 358 Park St. (Rt.27) in Stoughton on Monday, June 18, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at , at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton, MA.

Filomena B. (Braga) Sousa
Filomena B. (Braga) Sousa, 89, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Friday, June 8, 2012 peacefully at the West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Joao R. Sousa.
Born and educated in Portugal, she moved to Stoughton in 1971. Filomena was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sousa is survived by her loving children, Manuel Sousa and his wife Ines, Jose Sousa and his wife Rosa, Rosa Bairos and her husband Jose and Maria Sousa and her husband Joe all of Stoughton and Irene Figueiredo and her husband Jose of Florida.
She is also survived by her five cherished grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held at the Farley Funeral Home in Stoughton on Wednesday, June 13. Interment took place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.

Sidney H. Katzman
Sidney H. Katzman, 80, Doctor of Optometry, died at the Copley Nursing Home in Stoughton on Wednesday, June 13.
One of the founders of the Optometric Institute and Clinic of Detroit, Inc. which, over the past 45 years provided vision and special needs services to the indigent and low vision population of the citizens of Detroit.
Dr. Katzman served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force prior to entering civilian practice. He spent the majority of his professional career on the medical staff of Metro Medical Group and later Ford Hospital in the Detroit area.
He is deeply missed by his fellow professionals, the many patients he cared for so much, and his family.
Dr. Katzman is survived by his children, Cynthia M. Katzman and her husband, John Bowlby of Stoughton, Michael S. Katzman and his wife Judith of Oklahoma and Patricia D. Katzman of Newton; three grandchildren, David and Sarah Bowlby and Jesamine Katzman; two great-grandchildren, John and Emily Bowlby; his brother, Paul Katzman of Michigan; his niece, Amy Katzman and his nephew and his wife, Steve and Cheri Katzman and their daughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Gertrude "Gerry" (Rotter) Katzman and his former wife, Mary Floy (Schulz) Katzman.
As an eye doctor, he helped thousands to see – as a father, he shared his vision.
A graveside service was held at Dry Pond Cemetery on Bay Rd. in Stoughton on June 14. Donations in Dr. Katzman's memory may be arranged via email to Katzman Professional Eyecare Group, www.kpeg.org.

Eleanor G. York
Eleanor G. (Jones) York of Stoughton, formerly of Brockton, died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was 90 years old. She was born in Brockton, daughter of the late Marshall J. and Flora A. (Hayden) Jones.
Mrs. York was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1940, and the Brockton Business School, Class of 1942. As a young woman, she was a talented musician playing three instruments, the banjo, guitar and piano, playing in several local bands. She was a former member of the South Street Methodist Church in Brockton.
She worked for Alden Products in Brockton. She managed several Sullivan Donut Shops in Brockton, and together with her husband owned and operated Belmont TV and York Radio and TV Service located in Brockton. Her last job was a trim room manager for Pantsmaster in Brockton.
She lived together with her daughter, Ellen, for 30 years in Stoughton.
Mrs. York will be remembered as a person who spent her life dedicated to her family and friends and a caretaker to many people.
She was the wife of the late Clifford R. York; and the mother of Dr. Ronald York and his wife Susan of Virginia and El Paso, Texas, and Ellen Brady and her husband James of Stoughton.
She was the grandmother of Jennette Losby of Marion and Maryellen Shaw and Gabriel Garcia of Stoughton. She was the great-grandmother of Edward Ventura, Jamiah Shaw, Angela Garcia, Rachael Garcia, Zachary Losby, Brandon Losby; and great great-grandmother of Ayden Ventura.
A funeral service will be held Monday, June 18, in the Sampson-Hickey-Grenier Funeral Home, 309 Main St. in Brockton. Burial will take place at the Fairmount Cemetery in Weymouth.
