STOUGHTON, MA — A man in Stoughton charged with distributing drugs almost crashed into a police cruiser and attempted to flee in his vehicle and on foot, police said.

John Hailey was arrested Sunday night and charged with possession of a Class C drug with intent to distribute, drugged driving, failure to stop for police, resisting arrest, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and trespassing, according to the Stoughton Police Department.

Sunday night, Officers Nate Derby and Jake Sullivan were on patrol on Canton Street when they noticed a black Ford truck drift into their lane. Police say Sullivan had to quickly slam the brakes to avoid being struck head on by the operator, later identified as Hailey. Officer Sullivan turned the cruiser around and activated his blue lights and siren in an effort to stop the vehicle. Hailey allegedly took off and turned down Drake Avenue, exited his vehicle on Porter Terrace, and fled on foot.
