Stoughton Police Nab Alleged Vehicle Break-in Suspect

Police say John Carter tried to flee police but was arrested after a brief struggle.

STOUGHTON, MA — A man has been taken into custody following a series of alleged vehicle break-ins.

Early Wednesday morning, Officer Colby Gallagher was driving through the Pinecrest neighborhood when he noticed several sets of footprints leading in and out of various driveways, according to the Stoughton Police Department. Gallagher eventually found a suspect, identified as John Carter, in a vehicle on Stoughton Street.

After Gallagher called Carter out of the car, the suspect initially complied but allegedly fled the area. Carter was taken into custody following a brief struggle. He faces several charges including breaking and entering in the motor vehicle in the night, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, larceny over $250, and receiving stolen property over $250.
