Stoughton Police Name New Deputy Chief

Police Chief Donna McNamara announced Thursday that Brian Holmes has been promoted to the position of deputy chief.

STOUGHTON, MA — The Stoughton Police Department has a new deputy chief.

Police Chief Donna McNamara announced Thursday that Brian Holmes has been promoted to the position of deputy chief. Holmes will be sworn in on June 22, 2017 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall. This event is open to the public.

Holmes, who lives in Stoughton with his wife Michele two children Caitlin and Christopher, started his career in law enforcement at the age of 20 when he served as a part time dispatcher. He quickly transitioned into part time police and fire positions in his hometown of Avon. In 2000, he graduated the Norwood Police Academy and became a member of the Stoughton Police Department, where he was assigned as a field training officer. As a patrolman, Holmes was also on the warrant apprehension team, a crime prevention officer, and a K9 handler with his partner K9 Annie.

In 2013, Holmes was promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to the 4 p.m.-midnight shift. After just two years as a supervisor he was named supervisor of the year after receiving a similar honor as patrolman of the year in 2013.

Over the course of his career, Holmes has received three Life Saver awards. He recently earned his Master’s Degree in criminal justice from Curry College, and is a recipient of the FBI LEEDA Trilogy award, the National Night Out Against Crime Award, he has been our in-house CPR/AED & Narcan instructor.

Holmes has also served as an Executive Officer to the Patrolmen’s Union, Superior Officer’s Union, and Stoughton Police Relief Association. Deputy Chief Holmes brings a wealth of experience and trust to our Accredited Agency.

The public is invited to attend is swearing-in ceremony Thursday evening.
In addition to Holmes, Officer Ryan Flanagan, Officer Matthew Gada, Officer Michael Cowgill, Officer Bryan Mokrisky, and Officer Kimberlyn Lydon will be sworn in as Stoughton police officers.
