Stoughton Post 89 Bounces Back to Even Record at 2-2

After two heartbreaking losses to begin the 2014 season, Stoughton Post 89 bounced back with 2 wins to move to 2-2 on the season.  On Monday, Stoughton won a classic pitchers duel against Cohasset, 1-0 behind the dominating pitching from Pat Raeke, who allowed just 2 hits & Pat Jackman who closed the door for the save.  Jackman led off the game with a triple and was later driven in by Jovani Pires for the only run of the game. Jake Gibb went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple, while Raeke, Mike Gallagher and Sam Werman had the other hits for Stoughton Post 89.

On Tuesday, Stoughton pounded out 12 hits in a 13-2, rain shortened game. Sam Werman pitched 5 innings to earn the win.  Post 89 Captain, Pat Jackman, paced the Post 89 offense with 3 hits, 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored.  Pat Raeke had 2 hits as did Kaleb Ballou and Jake Gibb who also knocked in 3 runs a piece.  Werman reached base safely 3 times and scored 3 runs to help his own cause.  Zach Gibb and Justin Hutchinson also had hits to round out the Post 89 attack.  

"We could very easily be 4-0," Post 89 Coach Kevin McCormick pointed out. "We have room to improve, but I like the way we are battling!"

Post 89 Manager, Jim Derochea liked what he saw the last two games in particular. "Our goal is to get quality at bats up and down the line up and then  putting pressure on our opponent by staying aggressive on the base paths.  When we do that and get quality pitching, we are a tough team to beat."

Post 89 travels to Braintree on Wednesday before returning home on Thursday against Milton and Sunday against Holbrook.  Both home games are slated for 5:45pm starts.
