Stoughton Public Library Gets Moving with Zumba

The Stoughton Public Library mixed things up this winter, offering a free Zumba class.

More than 30 patrons took advantage of its recent free class offering.

The participants of the four Saturday classes had nothing but good things to say about the program and its instructor, Carolina Pokraka.

Pokraka is not a new face to the library.  As a Stoughton resident and mom of two young boys she often frequents the library personally. Professionally, she instructed a class for children during the 2011 summer reading program.

Children's Librarian Barbara Palley, who oversaw Pokraka's summer program said, "she had such a great manner about her with the kids so we knew she would be a good fit" for this program as well.  Palley went on to say, "people are very enthusiastic about it."

While Zumba is not the library's typical offering, Josh Olshin, Stoughton's Adult Librarian explained, "In the depths of winter, we wanted to offer something to get adults moving."

And move they did!  Dancing to songs like It's Raining Men and Single Ladies, the multi-generational group had fun with their workout, some even donning coined hip scarves.

Pokraka, who is a Zumba enthusiast, said she has been dancing since she was in the womb.

"I love it [zumba], it's not a workout, it is a party!", Pokraka said.
A sentiment that all its participants seemed to share as they posed for their group photo, cheering "ZUMBA!"
