Stoughton School Committee Approves 2017-18 School Calendar

It might be January but the schedule for next year is nearly complete.

STOUGHTON, MA — It might be only January but the school committee is already looking towards the next school year.

The 2017-18 calendar was recently approved by the school committee and has students returning after Labor Day. The first day for staff is Sept. 5, with grades 1-12 returning the next day. Kindergarten starts Sept. 7 and preschool begins Sept. 11.

The first off day is scheduled for Rosh Hashana on Sept. 21, followed by Columbus Day on Oct. 9. The rest of the year has the usual days off and breaks with staff development on Nov. 7, Thanksgiving Break on Nov. 23 and 24, holiday break from Dec. 24-Jan.1, Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 15, February break from Feb. 19-23, Good Friday on March 30, April vacation from April 16-20, and Memorial Day on May 28.

The seniors get their diplomas on June 7 and if there are no snow days, the rest of school ends class on June 18. If there are five snow days, school ends on June 25.

Early release dates have not been determined.

Joaquin Soares was the only school committee member to not vote for the calendar due to an objection concerning the holiday break not being called Christmas break.
