STOUGHTON, MA - Residents will head back to the polls this week, this time, to have their say on a new high school.
Tuesday, Stoughton will hold a special vote on a debt exclusion to fund construction of a brand new Stoughton High School. At stake is a 216,000-square-foot proposed high school. If passed by the voters, the town's taxpayers will provide $71.3 million through a temporary tax increase known as a debt exclusion. The impact would remain on the tax rolls until the project is paid off. The Massachusetts School Building Authority has agreed to provide about $52.2 million in funding.
Based on a 20-year bond, a resident with a home valued at $200,000 could pay an extra $252 a year in taxes. A resident with a home valued at $400,000 would pay an extra $504 a year in taxes.
