Suspect in Fatal Drugged Driving Case Held on Bail

Michael Burns, 33, of Taunton was charged with drugged driving and motor vehicle homicide during his arraignment in Stoughton District Court

A man accused of killing an elderly person in Stoughton while driving under the influence of drugs will be held on bail.

Michael Burns, 33, of Taunton pleaded not guilty to drugged driving and motor vehicle homicide during his arraignment in Stoughton District Court Monday morning according to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office. He was ordered held on $20,000 bail.

Friday night, Burns allegedly killed Joe Brady, 71 of Stoughton while driving on Route 27. Brady was attempting to return to his Christmas tree lot on Park Street.

The Norfolk County District Attorney’s office said there is evidence that Burns was delivering pizza and driving under the influence of drugs while he was driving.

Burns, a well know resident, was flown to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Defense counsel Jon Ciraulo indicated that the defendant was likely to post bail on the day of arraignment. He is ordered to remain drug and alcohol-free and not operate a motor vehicle while free on bail.
