This past holiday (Labor Day) weekend was a real stinker for those of you who'd planned outdoor activities - rainy, humid and overcast. Me, I loved every minute of it! While hubby had to work {he's in the media, so he's always working (sigh)}, I took my glass of iced tea, and stretched out on our new couch in the air conditioning. It was time to finish "The Snow Child" by Eowyn Ivey.
The story takes place in Alaska. You know how you've always heard that books that are set in cold climates actually make you feel cold while you're reading them? True! So the book was a good choice for summer.
The story is about homesteaders who arrive there in 1920. The couple in the story is childless, and had always wanted children. One night, they playfully build a snow child, complete with red scarf and mittens. The next day, the snow child has melted, and at the couple's door appears a little girl wearing said scarf and mittens. You will have to read the rest of the story to see what happens!
