WATCH: Stoughton Police Chief Works Final Day

As a sign of respect, the Stoughton police chief was escorted to the town line.


STOUGHTON, MA - As Paul Shastany left Stoughton Friday, he did so for the last time as the town's police chief.

Shastany served his last day Friday before entering into a sudden retirement. The now-former chief announced his intent to leave the post in February.

While leaving town, Shastany was escorted to the town line by members of the Stoughton Police Department.

"A sad day for the Stoughton Police Department as Chief Shastany walked out of the doors of 26 Rose St for the final time. While the men and women of the Stoughton PD will miss the Chief, make no mistake we will remain strong and be the beacon of integrity and professionalism this town deserves. Chief Shastany was escorted to the town line as a sign of extreme respect. Enjoy your retirement Chief," the department wrote on Facebook.

Shastany was Stoughton’s chief of police for six years and has been credited with cleaning up a department plagued with scandals, including two officers who were convicted of corruption charges, and a third officer who resigned.

Prior to coming to Stoughton, Shastany was a member of the Framingham Police Department for 27 years.
