The Stoughton Post 89 baseball team improved to 6-4 on Thursday night with a solid 7-2 victory over rival Canton Post 24. Sam Werman threw 6 solid innings to earn the victory and also contributed a key, 2-run triple in the top of the 7th to break open a close game. Werman also stole home later in the 7th for good measure. "Sam did everything (for us) tonight except sell popcorn between innings," mused Post 89 Coach, Kevin McCormick. "He scattered 5 hits, he tripled in two (runs) and even stole home!"
Werman also tossed 6 innings of 5 hit baseball before giving way to Mike Gallagher who needed only 10 pitches to close out the game. Zach Gibb broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 7th with a double that plated 2 runs before Werman's 2 RBI triple. Jake Gibb also had a clutch double in the 7th to help ignite the winning rally.
