5 Big Things Happening In Sudbury In 2023

From a new superintendent to the spring election, here are a few things to keep an eye on in 2023 in Sudbury.

SUDBURY, MA — New Year's Day now firmly in the past, and the first workweek of 2023 is now underway.

That means it's time to start looking forward to what's coming in 2023. Here are just a few big items you can look forward to in Sudbury coming up over the next 12 months.

2023 spring election

This year's municipal election on March 27 will feature races for one Select Board seat, three School Committee seats, one Planning Board seat and three seats on the Goodnow Library board, among many others. Candidates can begin pulling papers on Jan. 6.

New Lincoln-Sudbury High School leader

Longtime Superintendent Bella Wong announced in October she would leave the position when her contract ends at the 2022-23 school year. The LSHS School Committee has formed a search committee for her replacement, and will be interviewing candidates in 2023.

Bruce Freeman Rail Trail groundbreaking

A 4.4-mile section of the trail from Concord to Route 20/Boston Post Road will likely get underway in January. An official groundbreaking ceremony will be held sometime in the spring.

Fairbank Community Center work

A new community center and senior center building should be complete by fall, although some delays have pushed the completion date back by about a month. The project won't be totally done, however, until spring 2024.

New Sudbury Town Manager

Former Middleton manager Andy Sheehan will officially start work on Feb. 13 — the first permanent town manager since Henry Hayes Jr. resigned in June.
