A Little Bit of Paradise: Sudbury's In Vogue Spa

The Thursday Patch Passport shows you a Little Bit of Paradise. This is a local place where you can feel like you are a million miles away from the daily stress of life, without having to go far from home. Come along and relax.

Ask owner Tamara Donaghey about In Vogue Spa and she’ll tell you it’s the best kept spa secret in Sudbury.

Located along Boston Post Road on the second floor of the building that also houses Bullfinch’s restaurant, the spa is unassuming from the street. But new clients who step inside will be delighted to discover a cozy and relaxing atmosphere that immediately presages a high level of personal service.

Donaghey opened In Vogue nine years ago, and it was the only spa in Sudbury at that time. Having previously worked in business management and human resources in the corporate world, Donaghey decided it was time to make a career shift and went back to school to study advanced skin care.

“I set up In Vogue with great energy, hoping that I could give back to help people and make them feel good,” she says.

In Vogue’s clients include a number of men, who feel comfortable given the spa’s privacy, as well as mothers and daughters who have visited together for years.

“There’s no hustle and bustle of hair dryers or acrylic nails,” says Donaghey. “We get to know our clients names and the names of their children, and we look forward to catching up with them.”

A holistic approach to beauty is valued at In Vogue, and Donaghey and her staff incorporate aspects of reflexology and Reiki, which is a form of energy healing, into treatments like facials and pedicures. Donaghey also uses the same high-quality beauty products in her spa treatments that she sells, and she never offers a product until she’s invested extensive research in it.

“Nothing is purchased until I’ve tried it and it works. What we’re doing for clients, I’d do for myself,” says Donaghey.

In Vogue offers several lines of skin care products, including its own signature line as well as G.M. Collin, which is invited to do facials for attendees of the Academy Awards each year. Products at In Vogue contain the leading peptides – ingredients that make skin look younger and healthier – as well as elements like zinc and titanium, which provide natural protection from the sun.

Signature services at In Vogue include hair removal by Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), which can be safer than other forms of laser hair removal. Another client favorite is the Dynamic Duo facial, which uses state-of-the-art microdermabrasion techniques to exfoliate the skin and a mask that plumps to reduce fine lines. In Vogue also gets many clients interested in spray tanning by referral, because they have seen it on friends and are impressed with their natural-looking glow.

“Our biggest source of business is actually referrals,” says Donaghey. “Of course some of our clients have tried other spas in the area, but they come back and tell us how much better the quality of service is at In Vogue.”
