I am excited to announce my candidacy for Trustee of the Goodnow Library. The Goodnow Library has been the intellectual soul of our community, enriching our lives and helping to make Sudbury a better place. I want to apply a lifetime of community service experiences for the betterment of this cherished community institution. I hope to earn your support as I continue on my journey to support this remarkable town, and our truly unique library.
My long history of community involvement began with the Haynes School PTA, its craft center, and as a Girl Scout leader. As a member of Greenwood Swim and Tennis Club, I was Club Secretary for more than 10 years, including the time when the pool and clubhouse were rebuilt. My daughter and I started the L.S. Speech and Debate Team when we returned to Sudbury after spending three years in Silicon Valley, and we also brought to Sudbury from California, and made it happen, the idea of a Senior Safe Night for graduating L.S. Seniors which we now know as Jamaica Jammin. I was on the First Parish Building Committee when the building was renovated, and I co-chaired First Parish’s Harvest Craft Fair for 10 years. As a member of the Thursday Garden Club, I have been President for two terms and held many other offices.

The importance of the Goodnow Library to me is demonstrated by a more than 20-year involvement with the Friends of the Goodnow Library. During my tenure as President, we enhanced community awareness of the Friends’ work, created a structured budgeting process, and standardized our systems for running book sales, events and programs. We encouraged the community to not only join us, but to participate in library activities and to volunteer.
What I will bring to the Board of Trustees is a proven capability to engage others, to work selflessly to attain consensus, to listen carefully to everyone, and to focus on realizing the goals of the Goodnow Library. I will bring responsible leadership skills and will work diligently to ensure that residents receive the highest level of service and priority attention for all that the library does.
