SUDBURY, MA — The town of Sudbury is preparing to step back in time as it marks a major milestone in American history.

On Saturday, May 16, residents and visitors alike are invited to gather at Sudbury Town Center for “Sudbury 250 Day,” a large-scale community celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Designed as the capstone event of the town’s anniversary programming, Sudbury 250 Day will blend education, entertainment, and immersive historical experiences for all ages. Organizers say the goal is to bring history to life while highlighting Sudbury’s unique role in the nation’s founding.

Attendees can expect a wide range of activities throughout the day, including living history demonstrations, colonial-era music and dancing, and appearances by the Sudbury Companies of Militia & Minute and the Sudbury Ancient Fyfe & Drum Company. A cannon firing demonstration is also planned, offering a dramatic glimpse into Revolutionary War-era military life.

For families, the event will feature children’s games, craft vendors, and food trucks, while history enthusiasts can take guided tours of key local landmarks, including the Revolutionary War Cemetery, the Loring Parsonage, and the Hosmer House. Self-guided tours of the historic Town Center will also be available.

One of the highlights of the day will be “Declaring Independence: Then and Now,” an award-winning live performance that reimagines the signing of the Declaration of Independence through engaging storytelling and costumed interpreters.

The Sudbury 250 Committee, established by the Select Board, has been hosting events to mark the anniversary of the American Revolution. Officials say this signature celebration is meant to bring the community together while honoring the town’s historical legacy.

With a full slate of activities and a focus on interactive learning, Sudbury 250 Day aims to offer something for everyone — from history buffs to families looking for a festive spring outing.
