SUDBURY, MA — A popular ice cream shop in Sudbury will close its doors at the end of August before relocating a few minutes east to Wayland.

New City Microcreamery, an ice cream company known for its scratch-made ice cream and its liquid nitrogen-freezing process, plans to open at Wayland Town Center in spring 2027, the business announced Tuesday. The scoop shop did not say when exactly it would open or which storefront it will take over at the shopping center.

In Sudbury, New City is located at 400 Boston Post Road. The business said its new Wayland location will provide more room to expand its offerings and introduce new services based on customer feedback.

The company has operated at 534A Boston Post Road in Sudbury's Meadow Walk shopping plaza for about four years. New City opened the Sudbury shop in March 2022, making it the company's third location at the time.

A "See You Soon Party" will be held at the Sudbury shop from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30.

The company said customers can visit its nearby location or purchase its ice cream at Whole Foods while the Wayland shop is being prepared. New City also has locations in Hudson, Arlington, Bolton, Cambridge and Chestnut Hill.
