SUDBURY, MA — The town is hiring someone to protect and maintain its open spaces.
The Conservation Land Manager position includes field inspections, land stewardship, trail and meadow maintenance, invasive species control, habitat restoration and oversight of seasonal workers. Sudbury announced it would be hiring for the role on Monday.
Working under the conservation coordinator, the land manager also monitors town conservation properties for compliance with federal, state and local laws. Other responsibilities include maintaining land and biodiversity records, organizing volunteer projects and building trail features such as footbridges, water bars and kiosks.
Sudbury's Conservation Department manages more than 1,200 acres of conservation land and monitors restrictions covering more than 600 additional acres, according to the town's fiscal 2027 budget proposal.
Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in environmental science, forestry, natural resources management or a related field. The town prefers two years of experience, along with land-use management or municipal experience.
The job also requires familiarity with the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, experience using geographic information systems and GPS applications, basic carpentry skills and a valid driver's license.
The work includes outdoor site visits in thick woods, wetlands and varying weather conditions. Occasional attendance at evening meetings may also be required.
