SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury officials have released a draft of the town's updated Open Space and Recreation Plan for public review.

The draft plan was published Friday and formally announced Monday by the Planning and Community Development Department. Residents can submit comments through Oct. 15 before officials refine the document's 10-year action plan.

The plan is intended to guide how Sudbury prioritizes natural resource protection, land preservation, recreational programming and the development of recreational land, the town said.

Town officials said the document will help identify Sudbury's primary goals for open space parcels and set a path to achieve them.

Potential priorities include protecting the town's water supply, wildlife and critical habitats, preserving Sudbury's character and expanding active and passive recreation opportunities.

The plan also considers developing trail connections for nonmotorized recreation and maintaining town-owned land for residents' use.

Public Input Session Set

Sudbury began the update process earlier this year. Officials previously gathered feedback through a February town forum, a May open house, a resident survey and a field notes activity.

The updated document will replace Sudbury's previous Open Space and Recreation Plan, which covered 2009 through 2013. Since that plan was adopted, the town has protected more than 283 acres of priority properties and another 118 acres of private land through conservation restrictions, according to information presented by the town earlier this year.

Officials will present the new draft and collect additional feedback during a public input session from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Fairbank Community Center, 40 Fairbank Road. The meeting will be held in multipurpose rooms 1 and 2.
