SUDBURY, MA — This might be the end of kids — and parents — standing out in the freezing cold waiting for the school bus.

Sudbury Public Schools has rolled out a new smartphone app that will allow parents to track where school buses are in real-time. The app will show if a bus is delayed, and lets students know when they really need to be out the door.

“We want parents to have all of the information they need at any given moment, and we think this technology is a great way for the district and parents to stay connected while helping families plan their schedules more easily,” Superintendent Brad Crozier said in a press release.

Parents can download the FirstView app for Android and Apple phones and other mobile devices. Once downloaded, parents will be able to:

  • See exactly where a school bus is located, including when it's approaching your home and when it departs a school
  • The app will send notifications about district-wide delays and cancellations
  • Parents can customize the app to send an alert when a bus is a certain distance or number of minutes from a home

You can find out more about the app on the First Student website.
