SUDBURY, MA --The Sudbury Cultural Council has been allocated $4600 from the Massachusetts Cultural Council for 2017-18 to provide grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies, schools, and individuals for programs that support cultural activities in the community. Applications, which can now be submitted completely online, must be received by 11:59 PM on Monday October 16. Grants can be for programs that take place during an 18-month window of eligibility between July 1, 2017, and December 31, 2018. That is, applicants may apply for projects that have already taken place, with the knowledge that funding is not guaranteed.

The grants can support a variety of artistic and interpretive science projects and activities in the town of Sudbury, including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, performances, concerts, workshops, and lectures. Grants may also be given for field trips and capital expenditures. Proposals are evaluated by several criteria: benefit to the community, quality of the activity, evidence of planning, and qualifications of the individuals leading the activity, track record of the sponsoring group, clarity of the proposal, and benefit to Sudbury residents. School related proposals must be for enrichment activities and not for programs, supplies or salaries that should be part of the school budget. Outreach is very important, so priority will be given to programs that reach the largest numbers of people.

The Sudbury Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.
