As a child, growing up, I always looked forward to "tea time" with my Grandmother Claire. She always went out of her way to be sure we had special tea cups ready to go for our afternoon tea.
I remember hearing my Grandmother in the kitchen, the sink running as she busily worked to make our magical afternoon snack. The whistle of a teapot always brings back fond memories of being in her cozy home.
Our snack still is one of my favorite indulgences. She would pile a plate with fresh strawberries next to a small bowl of sour cream and another bowl of brown sugar. We would dip the strawberries in a little sour cream and then follow it with the crunchy brown sugar. I would sip away on my tea and chat with her about all the important things in life, like my new teacher or how I learned about the many different ways to count from 1-10. I was always particularly proud of my French. Although, as an adult, I am lucky that I can properly pronounce 'fois gras' or 'Bordeaux' at a restaurant.
Tea time is one of the most relaxing times of the day. Sure, we don't always get to stop and relax, but when I do, I love a good cup of tea.
Our morning coffee breaks tend to lapse into routine. Instead of the calming thought of a whistling teapot we are sometimes tapping our foot in a long line hoping we can snag our coffee in time to get to work. Creatures of habit, we all either 'run on Dunkies' or flash our fancy gold Starbucks card and our on our way with our beverage.
I am always in search of a place that is a bit unique. Something with character and that is locally run. I found that in "The Coffee Loft." Tucked away on 407 Lincoln Street in Marlborough, this space offers something for everyone. Parking is located in a small lot and their are residential lofts in the building.
As you walk into the loft you will be greeted by friendly baristas. The interior is industrial, however, the art adorning the walls keep it warm and welcoming.
The menu spans every coffee lovers requests from piping hot latte's to flavored iced coffee. The tea selection is perhaps my favorite part about this place. I am personally fond of the Artichoke Green Tea and they have many loose leaf flavors tucked away ready for sipping.
If you are looking to check out some live music and enjoy your coffee or tea, The Coffee Loft is open late until 10pm Thursday-Saturday.
Take a little extra time out of your day and relax!
