Reason for running: My love for running was ignited by one of the best and worst moments of my career as a nurse. As a nurse on a Surgical/Trauma ICU at Massachusetts General Hospital, I see a lot of trauma. It’s the environment in which I choose to work and I love what I do. I walk through the doors of my unit and I never know what I'm up against but regardless, I've got to do what I got to do. At the end of my shift, I can usually walk off the unit and leave it all behind because it’s what we do, but this time it was different. I was not working on the actual day of the bombings on Boylston Street, but our unit was significantly impacted by the events of that day. Forty-eight hours later, I was assigned as the nurse to take care of one of the most critically injured bombing survivors, and continued to care for him until he was stable enough to transfer out of our unit.

Marathon experience: Prior to running the 2014 Boston Marathon, the longest distance I could ever run was 3 miles. I am now getting ready to run my third Boston Marathon and I still consider myself a “beginner."
Training Tip: The best training tip that I could give is to be patient. It takes a lot of work to build a marathoner, it doesn’t happen overnight. Believe in yourself and you will finish.
