Cavaretta Calls on Eldridge to Explain Vote Against “Melissa’s Bill”

MARLBOROUGH -- Dean Cavaretta, (R) candidate for Massachusetts State Senate in the Middlesex and Worcester District, [which covers Sudbury Precincts 2 and 3] held a Grand Opening for his new Marlborough Office last night featuring 2010 State Auditor Candidate Mary Z. Connaughton. Westborough Selectman Denny Drewry, State Representative Steve Levy, State Rep Candidate Chuck Kuniewich, and Congressional Candidate Jon Golnik were among the officials and people in the crowd.   

During the event, Cavaretta discussed how his opponent, State Senator Jamie Eldridge, was one of only seven State Senators to vote against “Melissa’s Bill” earlier in the day.  The Bill passed the Senate 31-7 and institutes no parole for certain criminals convicted of a third felony.  The bill now heads to the Governor’s desk for his signature.  

“This is not the first time Senator Eldridge has put the special interests in front of the interests of his constituents,” Cavaretta noted.  “From pushing a carbon tax on all small businesses to voting against EBT cash reform, to even voting to shrink the drug free zone around schools, Mr. Eldridge votes far out of the mainstream. I think he owes constituents an explanation why he would not support locking up violent, repeat criminals.”

Cavaretta also explained how his own personal experience as a MA certified teacher and a small business owner makes him uniquely qualified to be our State Senator who will put education, the economy, and law-abiding citizens first.

“Many of our residents are working twice as hard, but making half as much. I understand what it is to struggle financially during this brutal, never-ending Recession,” Cavaretta said.  “That is why I want to create an environment for all small businesses to create jobs. My Jobs Plan does this by lowering tax rates and ending giveaways like the one Senator Eldridge supported for the now bankrupt Evergreen Solar.”
