Computer Viruses and Phishing

Be careful of fake E-mails trying to trick you into installing Malware or giving out personal information.

One way that Scammers are tricking people into giving out personal information or install malware on their systems is called Phishing.  You may receive an E-mail that looks like a legitimate mail from Paypal, Better Business Bureau, various Banks, UPS, FedEx, etc.  They attempt to copy the companies E-mail and often use their logos so the mail looks legitimate.  They will ask you to follow a link which may ask you for your personal info or may install a Virus on your system.

Take a good look at the E-mail for grammatical errors or typos as quite often these are originating from other countries where English is not their native language.  Another thing to do is to hold your mouse over the link without clicking on it.  This will show you the address that you will go to if you click on the link.  In most cases, it will not be the legitimate site but some random address.

To be totally safe, if you receive something that looks to be legitimate, you can go right ot the website from your Internet Browser instead of from the E-mail link and log into your account or pick up the phone and call the company.
