Dan DePompei Announces Candidacy for Selectman

Candidate believes improvements in open meetings, goal setting and the integrity of our processes will make Sudbury a better place.

I am pleased to formally announce my candidacy for Selectman.

My wife Eileen and I have lived and raised our family in Sudbury over the past 38 years.

I retired from full time employment in 2006.

These past several years have given me the opportunity to better understand the risks and opportunities in making Sudbury sustainable while constantly improving Sudbury’s resources and capabilities for all of its’ residents.

I have managed my professional careers, and my retirement, on three basic principals; principals that I believe should guide our management in Sudbury:

Transparency and Full Disclosure: Sudbury needs open discussion.  We need to immediately implement our Open Town Forum.  We need to schedule specific period(s) for public input at every public meeting. We need to create real time access to all public information. No individual, or committee, can make a good decision or propose a good plan without the availability of good data and the opportunity for open discussion.

Planning:  We need real plans.  Plans are necessary for what we need to do (opportunity) and what we need to avoid (risk).  Plans should evolve from concepts that have majority support and minority input as recorded at open meetings. Plans should be prioritized. Plans should include proposed schedule, budget and resources for completion.  We need a plan that makes our 3 independent cost centers look more like one well-run enterprise.

Integrity: We need to say what we are going to do and do what we say.  Every individual and every plan needs goals.  Goals should be documented and measured. Sudbury has voted twice in the past 3 years to conduct Open Town Forums and the first Forum still has not been conducted. We voted 4 years ago to create a Rail Trail concept plan.  To date, we have no concept plan.

Sudbury is a community of well educated, hard working families and businesses.  We can discuss, plan and budget for anything and everyone if we have factual, real time information.  But without the assurance of Integrity, Transparency and Full Disclosure in our management processes, we cannot make informed decisions or create real plans.  And without informed decisions and real plans, we place the sustainability and the potential for improvement of Sudbury in jeopardy.  Sudbury, we can do better.
