DePompei and Gozdeck for Continued Progress

On communication, 40B, school funding, the rail trail and conflicts of interest, my vote is for DePompei and Gozdeck.

I am voting for Todj and Dan based on these issues:

  • Communication
  • Support for 3-5
  • School funding
  • 40B
  • Rail Trail
  • Conflicts of Interest

Communication and the debate that never happened

Critics of the debate were correct in that Mike Troiano who spent the time to organize the debate, was not the best choice to moderate it. He admitted that himself and offered to step aside. At that point, though, we had a facility, two members of the press lined up to ask questions, TV coverage, and three candidates. All we needed were the other two candidates to step up and make it work. That didn’t happen. You can’t ignore voters especially ones who might disagree with you.

Mike Troiano has done a tremendous job organizing citizens to talk about the issues using social media.  He should be commended for that, and candidates should work to support efforts like his. TOdj and Dan understand this.

Support for 3-5

Both Todj and Dan supported 3-5. Supporting 3-5 was more than just getting more selectmen, it was a belief that we needed to make our government more representative of the town. Todj and Dan support that belief.

School Funding

For the first time, most of the candidates are starting to discuss the need for consolidation and reexamining our agreement with Lincoln. That is good to see. But until the school lobby starts to listen to everyone in town, we won’t get the right level of funding for the schools either through overrides or other means. It is easy to be pro-override, it is more difficult to get those overrides passed. Todj and Dan can build the consensus needed to support the schools.

40B

Dan’s letter to the editor about the impossible math we are pursuing on 40B with our focus on home ownership was eye opening. Concord solved their 40B problem. We seem unable to do so despite all the planning the town has in progress. The status quo isn’t going to make this happen.

Rail Trail

The rail trail issue has been around for years. Building a large, wide trail through the center of town to Mass DOT specifications theoretically would be great. But we haven’t been able to make this happen for a variety of reasons one of which is the lack of flexibility of the Mass DOT specification. We need to get the trail built, but on Sudbury’s terms. Otherwise, it won’t get built. Dan and Todj appear flexible on this and will work for the trail.

Conflicts of Interest

Dan and Todj have no associations with any organizations that bring business before the town, nor do they or members of their family receive income from the town. That is important to me.

Please remember to vote on Tuesday for whomever you decide is the best candidate.
