Fake Antiviruses - Windows and MAC users

Beware of Rogue or Fake Antivirus on booth PCs and MACs.

Rogue security software (fake antivirus software) is one of the most popular forms of Malware these days. Once on a system, it tries to trick a user into believing that purchasing their cleaner will fix it for you. These attacks have been around for a while but are getting popular lately and are also starting to target MAC users.

If you get one of these fake antiviruses on your system, do not enter your credit card info as they will not remove the malware from your system and may go on a shopping trip using your card. You will want to shut down the system immediately until you can find out how to clean it or have it professionally cleaned.

If you have already inputted your credit card info to one of these sites, cancel your credit card immediately.

These types of Malware get onto systems from several places (browser toolbars, email attachments, Video Codecs, File sharing downloads, drive-by installs on unprotected systems and many other ways). Search engine results often bring up infected websites as they flood the search engines with infected URLs to categorize.
