Laptops and Liquids

Liquids and Laptops don't mix.

If you spill water into a laptop or electrical appliance, unplug the device immediately. Also, take out the battery. You do not want any power going through the device. Under no circumstances should you power on the device to see if it works as you increase the risk of shorting out components.

Make sure that the device is totally dry before powering it up. Some techs recommend a hair dryer at low heat but be careful not to overheat any components.  I place the device in a small room with a dehumidifier as this seems to dry them out quickly and completely. If you are comfortable opening the device or removing covers, you may be able to blot some of the heavy liquid out first.

The safe bet is to keep liquids away from your electronics as spills void warranties in most cases.
