Phillies 13, Indians 11

The Phillies outlasted the Indians, 13-11, in a thrilling, sixth inning, come-from-behind victory. The Phillies’ seven-run comeback rally was led by brothers Sam Gray and Jack Gray, who combined to score five runs on four hits, and Wilson Sneath and Jack Garrity.  The Phillies took an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning on hits by Sam Gray and Jack Gray, Matt Cunningham (3 RS) and Jack Garrity (3 RS). They padded their lead to 6-3 in the third on runs by Sneath (2 RS) and Cunningham’s solo home run. The Indians charged back in the late innings, scoring eight runs to take an 11-6 lead. For the Indians, Ben Fasciano banged out three hits and scored two runs. Alec Zaccardo reached base safely in three at bats, scored two runs and pitched two solid innings. Stephen Kossuth and Andrew Sanderson each hammered doubles deep into the outfield. Jack Hankey and Lars Hjerpe both had run-scoring base hits. Relief pitcher Nico Andolina was outstanding, striking out four batters and did not allow a run. He also had a base hit.

Padres 9, Orioles 3

The Padres jumped out to a three-run lead sparked by Charlie Desmarias’ double and never looked back en route to a 9-3 victory over the Orioles. The Padres’ offense was led by Desmarais who also scored three runs, and Sam Winneg who had two hits and scored a run. Defensively, the Padres got great pitching from Abby Volo (3 IP), Michael McKinnon (1⅔ IP) and JB Clarance who closed the game (1⅓). Aidan Rogers was solid behind the plate and threw out a runner at second on an attempted steal. Offensively, the Orioles were led by Ben Kateman, Anil Lele, and Alden Young who each scored a run. Defensively the Orioles received good pitching from Milind Lele (2 IP, 4 Ks), Jacob Pentz (3 IP, 4K) and Jack Fletcher (IP, K). In the field, third baseman David Marchand started an impressive double play by snagging a well-hit line-drive and then nailing the baserunner at first on a perfect throw; Lucas Allen had four putouts and Alden Young scooped up two hard hit ground balls at second base.

Angels 6, Giants 6

The Angels and Giants battled to a 6-6 tie. The Angels’ Joey Caloriero pitched well over two innings and did not allow a run. He recorded five strikeouts. Teammate Brendan Walsh also tossed two innings and fanned five. David Donley and Flynn Townsend got on base twice and both scored a run. Henry Stowell, Calvin Carmichael and Ryan Cullen each turned in stellar defensive plays. The Giants’ offense was powered by Sam Anderson’s three hits (2 1B, 3B, RS, RBI), and Teddy Smith added two hits (1B, 2B, RS, RBI), Nicholas Mitchell chipped in with a base hit and scored a run and teammate Jason Lyons contributed with a single, a run scored and drove in two runs. Kyle Smith and Ippolit Matjucha each reached base safely and scored, and Teddy Durant and Emmet Klein also reached base safely. The Giants received great pitching from Matjucha (2 IP, 2 Ks), Lyons (2 IP, K) and Teddy Smith (2 IP, 3 Ks). Defensively for the Giants, Mitchell, Lyons and Luke Geel combined on a gem of a play to catch an Angels’ base runner on an attempted steal. Isaac Tilbor and Benny Smart each made a nice catch on fly balls.

Mets 10, Cubs 2

Timely offense, tough pitching and good defense were the keys to the Mets’ 10-2 victory over the Cubs. The Mets broke open a 1-0 game with a three-run fourth inning and six runs in the fifth. Andrew Guerra (1B, 2B, 2 RS, 4 RBIs), Lucas Lisman (1B, 2B, 2 RS), Ryan Lutz (2 1B, 2 RBIs) and Jonah Krasnow (1B, 2B, RS) led the Mets’ offense. Nick Emerson (2 RS, RBI)  and Tim Duffy (1B, 2 RBIs) provided clutch hits in the fifth to break open the game after Stuart Lustig (1B, RS) started the rally. Mets’ pitchers Josh Jacobson, Emerson, Krasnow, Lisman and Drew Teitelbaum held the Cubs to five hits and combined for 10 strikeouts. Catcher Alex Kelly made a key defensive play to stop a Cubs’ rally in the fourth. Brett Siegal had two key stolen bases during both rallies. The Cubs’ two runs were scored by Brendan Meehan in the fourth, and Andrew Cahill in the sixth when Magnus Magnusson drew a bases-loaded walk. Jack Reading banged out two doubles, and Max Solomon, Charlie Murphy, Thomas Palmer and Jake Mackenzi (RBI) all had base hits. Liam Shaughnessy reached base safely. Starting pitcher Palmer faced 11 batters, struck out six (including three consecutive called third strikes) and allowed one run over three innings. Defensively, catcher Reading made a sparkling gem of a play at home plate for a crucial third out in the top of the fourth when he dove and lunged on the ground to tag Mets’ baserunner Siegal. Mackenzi made a great catch at first base in foul territory on a hard-hit line drive by Krasnow. In the sixth, centerfielder Jack Bull, second baseman Mackenzi and third baseman Meehan combined for a smart, heads-up 8-4-5 play when Lustig made a run to third base on Krasnow’s single.

Phillies 12, Angels 9

The Phillies scored four runs in the sixth inning to come from behind and nip the Angels, 12-9.  Pitcher Jack Urdang was commanding as he struck out the first six batters he faced.  Jack Gray and Ethan Sussman pitched middle relief and Wilson Sneath closed out the game, throwing one and one-third innings of no-hit ball. Offensively, the Phillies were led by Ryan Meal (3 BB, 4 SB, 2 RS) to start the game and Sneath, Brendon Kelleher and Sussman each banged out a double. Sussman added a base hit to his plate appearances. In the bottom of the fifth, Matt Cunningham (2B, 2 HR, 3 RBIs) and Jack Garrity (HR, RS, RBI) hit back-to-back home runs after Sam Gray and Jack Gray each singled to start the inning.  A nifty relay from Kelleher in deep right field to Sam Gray at cutoff and then a throw from gray to catcher Colby Cataldo nailed the Angels’ baserunner at home plate to end an Angels’ rally in the fourth. Henry Stowell, Brett Parker (2 IP, 4K) Kyle Hammond and Ryan Cullen all pitched effectively for the Angels. Flynn Townsend had two hits and Calvin Carmichael reached base safely three times for the Angels.

Giants 11, Indians 2

The Giants combined timely hitting and quality defense to defeat the Indians, 11-2. Giants’ offensive was powered by triples from Jason Lyons (3 1B, 3B, 3 RS, 4 RBIs) and Teddy Durant (3B, 3 RBIs). Nicholas Mitchell (1B, 2B, 3 RS, 2 RBIs) and Luke Geel (2 1B, RS) had a multi-hit game, and Isaac Tilbor, Benny Smart, Sam Anderson, and Ippolit Matjucha each contribute a base hit. The Giants’ stingy defense was led by catcher Durant who threw a perfect strike to third baseman Stuart to nail an Indians’ baserunner on an attempted steal. Catcher Anderson made a great play on a wild pitch to recover and tag out a runner at home. The Giants received exceptional pitching from Lyons (2 Ks), Emmet Klein, (K) and Smart who kept the Indians’ bats in check. The Indians offense was lead by Stephen Kossuth who had a base hit and reached base safely in his other two at-bats; and Alec Zaccardo who had two hits. Drew Nobile and David Lifson each had a base hit. Ben Fasciano, Jack Hankey, Kossuth, and TJ Hall handled the pitching duties. Parks Marilla made several key defensive plays.

Cardinals 18, Pirates 1

The Cardinals’ offense was the key to an 18-1 victory over the Pirates. Andrew Sifferlen's triple in the first inning powered the Cardinals’ offense in the first inning. Jack Dorsey went 3-for-4 including two doubles; Nate Nickerson was 3-for-3 with a double. Charlie Cavanaugh was 2-3, and Adam Bradford and Michael Cavanaugh each had a base hit and scored a run. Nate Nickerson pitched three innings and allowed just one run. Connor Lachman pitched two innings of relief and did not allow a run. Defensively, Devin Atwood made a nice play at second base in a bases-loaded, two out situation. In the fourth inning, Jack Dorsey made a nice running catch in centerfield on a well hit ball. For the Pirates, Shane George and Jayden Cormier were solid in their respective major’s division pitching debuts. Cormier recorded four strikeouts and George did a great job of consistently throwing strikes. Andrew Brown and Jesse Sun made several nice defensive plays in the infield. Alec Kielen and Adam Howard each hit the ball hard, only to be foiled by solid Cardinals’ defense.

Mets 21, Orioles 11

The Mets overcame a seven-run deficit in a slugfest victory over the tough Orioles, 21-11. After the Orioles took a 7-0 lead in the first inning, the Mets answered with five runs in the first, five in the second, and 11 more over the next three innings. The Mets had a balanced offensive attack with multi-hit games by Drew Teitelbaum (2 hits, 3 RS, RBI), Lucas Lisman (3 hits, 3 RS, 2 RBIs), Andrew Guerra (3 hits, 2 RS, 4 RBIs), Nick Emerson (3 hits, 2 RS, 3 RBIs),Tim Duffy (3 hits, 4 RS, 3 RBIs, 2 2B), Ryan Lutz (2 hits, 2 RS, 2 RBIs), Brett Siegal (2 hits, 2 RS) and Chris Williams (2 hits, 2 RBIs). Siegal, Lutz, and Duffy held the Oiroles to just four runs between the second and sixth innings Stuart Lustig made an outstanding defensive diving play at second base and outfielder Williams stopped a key Orioles’ rally and Josh Jacobson's fifth inning, two-run triple sealed the Mets’ victory. The Orioles’ pounded out 16 hits and their offense was led by Jamie Sampson-Lizotte (3 1B, RBI, RS), Ben Ohler (2B, 2 RBIs), Lucas Allen (2B, RBI), Alden Young (1B, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 RS), Jack Fletcher (2 1B, RBI, RS), Ben Kateman (1B, RBI), and David Marchand (2 1B, RS). Orioles’ pitchers Allen (IP, 2 Ks), Sampson-Lizotte (2 IP, K), and Anil Lele (2 IP, 4 Ks) hung tough against the Mets throughout the game.

White Sox 14, Padres 9

The White Sox played their best game of the season with a decisive14-9 victory over the Padres. Pitchers Haydn Herrema (2 IP, 2 Ks, 0 ER), Matt Joachim (2 IP, 1 ER), and Will Dale (1 ⅓ IP, 3 Ks, 0 ER) all pitched very efficiently.  Matt Becker made two nice defensive plays at third base, and Liam Huston made a key catch in right field in the sixth. On offense, John Dale had three hits, and Will Dale and Jack Ginand both reached base four times. The Padres’ pitching was led by Tyler Durkin, Sam Winneg and Griffin Brown.  Charlie Desmarais made a nice defensive play with a diving catch in centerfield.  The Padres’ offense was led by Aidan Rogers who banged out a triple and scored two runs. Taylor Bahn had a three-run double and scored twice. Michael MacKinnon and Will Jarrell each reached base twice and scored.  

Astros 9, Brewers 8

The Astros defeated the Brewers, 9-8, on Noah Gies’ (3 1B, 2 RBIs, RS) walk-off single in the sixth inning that scored James Ensley (1B, RBI, 3 RS). Astros’ starter Sean Carney pitched two innings and gave up only one run. Ensley and Jackson Bleakley closed the game with key strikeouts. Bleakley also ripped a double which scored Carney (1B) with the tying run. Chris Streilein (1B, RS) and Michael Hulen (2 1B, RS) hit the ball hard. Jake Titus (3-for-3, 4 RBIs) hit a grand slam early in the game. The Brewers’ offense kept the game close with multiple hits from Robert Macnamara and Jimmy O'Connor. Dom Garzone, Alex Cannon, Peter Cannon (2 RBIs), Daniel Guzi and Ryan Immerman (3 RS) added hits to the offense. Matt Allor and O'Connor made excellent defensive plays to keep the game close. Strong pitching was provided by Garzone (6 Ks) and Allor (2 Ks).

Mets 13, White Sox 5

The Mets overcame a three-run deficit in the fifth inning, scoring 11 runs on nine hits in a 13-5, come-from-behind victory over the White Sox. The Mets were lead offensively with multi-hits from Drew Teitelbaum (2 hits, RS, 2 RBIs), Lucas Lisman (2 2B, 2 RS, RBI), Andrew Guerra (2 1B, 2B, RS, 3RBIs), Tim Duffy (2 hits, RS, RBI), and Alex Kelly (2 hits, 2RS, RBI). The White Sox held on to its 5-2 lead behind superb pitching of Ryan Richards, who held the Mets scoreless in the third and fourth innings. Richards’ was backed by a strong defensive play by Jack Ginand, who made a lunging stab of a line drive at first base. John Dale reached base and scored twice, and Will Dale had two hits. Mets’ Stuart Lustig and Jonah Krasnow each drove in two runs during the Mets’ rally. The pitching of Nick Emerson (2 ⅓ IP, 3 Ks) and Guerra (0 ER, K) kept the Mets in the game until the fifth inning. Lisman (0 ER, 4 Ks) closed out the game. Ryan Lutz (2B, 2 RBIs) and Brett Siegal both made key defensive plays for the Mets.

Padres 7, Cubs 6

Relief pitcher JB Clarance pitched himself out of a bases-loaded, two-out jam in the bottom of the sixth inning to preserve the Padres’ slim 7-6 victory over a tough Cubs’ team. The Padres scored runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings led by Aidan Rogers (2 1B, 2 RS) and Griffin Brown (1B, 2 RS). Sam Winneg (1B), Abby Volo (2B), Michael Mackinnon (1B, RS) also contributed to the offense. The Padres’ defense also executed a perfect 7-6-2 play to nab a Cubs’ baserunner at home plate. Padres received solid pitching from Volo (3 IP, 3 Ks) and Charlie Desmarais (2 IP, 4 Ks 0 R). Down 7-4, the Cubs rallied for two runs on a bases-loaded walk to Andrew Cahill (1-2, 1B, RBI) that scored Thomas Palmer (2-3, 1B, 2B, RBI, 2 RS). Jack Reading’s (3-4, 2 1B, 3B, RBI) base hit plated Max Solomon (1B, 2B, RBI) to pull the Cubs to within one run. Jack Bull (RS), Brendan Meehan (1B) Magnus Magnusson (BB), Charlie Murphy (BB) and Jake Mackenzi (1B) all reached base safely for the Cubs. The Cubs made some great defensive plays during the game. Palmer was involved in four put outs at first base; Reading made a great catch of a high pop fly at shortstop; Mackenzi (3 IP, 4Ks, 1 ER) threw from the ground in front of the pitcher’s mound to Palmer at first for an out; Cahill made a great catch at second base and combined with Meehan for a heads up 3-4 play in the fourth; and Magnusson made a great throw from third base to Palmer.

Brewers 10, Indians 6

The Brewers defeated the Indians, 10-6, in a well-played game. The Brewers’ offense was led by Dom Garzone and Jimmy O'Connor who each had two hits. Robert Macnamara, Joseph Akisik, Daniel Guzi and Ryan Immerman all had base hits, and Jason Mead banged out a double. Immerman’s diving catch in the outfield was the defensive play of the game. Strong pitching was provided by Alex Cannon (4 Ks) and O'Connor (6 Ks). For the Indians, Drew Nobile reached base three times, had two stolen bases and scored three runs. Lars Hjerpe had a key hit to drive in two runs. Parks Marilla did a nice job behind the plate. TJ Hall and Ben Fasciano scored runs.  Andrew Sanderson, David Lifson, and Nobile provided solid pitching.

Orioles 8, Cardinals 3

The Orioles scored eight runs early in the game and held on for an 8-3 victory over the Cardinals. Leading the Orioles offensively were Anil Lele (2 1B, 2 RS), Jacob Pentz (1B, 2B, BB, 2 RS, RBI), Milind Lele (1B, 2B, 2 RS 3 RBIs), and David Marchand (2 1B, RS, RBI). The Orioles received great pitching from Milind Lele (3 IP, 9 Ks) and Pentz (3 IP, 0 runs, 4K, 0 BB). In the field, Alex Kilroy made a great catch at third and Pentz snagged a line drive on the mound for an out then fired to first baseman Ben Ohler who scooped up the throw for a game-ending double play. Defensively for the Cardinals, Devon Atwood made a nice catch in left field and threw a perfect strike to double up an Orioles’ baserunner at second base in the sixth inning. Atwood also made a nice play at second on a hard-hit ground ball. Offensively, Charlie Cavanaugh banged out a two-run double and a base hit. Josh Brener and Matt Lucey contributed base hits, and Nate Nickerson was 2-for-3. Connor Lachman and Jack Dorsey each scored a run. Lahman and Dorsey shared relief pitching duties over four innings, combining for seven strikeouts and did not allow a run.

Phillies 10, Giants 9

The Phillies scored eight runs in the fifth inning to come from behind and edge the Giants, 10-9, in a hard-fought game by both teams. A bases-clearing triple by Sam Gray gave the Phillies the lead, and Jack Urdang, Brendan Kelleher, David Rowe and Colby Cataldo all had base hits in the fifth. Relief pitcher Matt Cunningham closed out the game for the Phillies, striking out six of the last seven batters he faced. The Giants had built a 9-2 lead with solid offense by Emmet Klein (2 1B, RS, 3 RBIs), Kyle Smith (1B, 2B, RS, RBI) and Jason Lyons (2 1B, 2 RS). Nicholas Mitchell (1B, RS, RBI), Ippolit Matjucha (1B, RS, 2 RBIs) and Isaac Tilbor (1B, RS, RBI) each had hits and drove in runs. Luke Geel slapped a double, and Benny Smart, Teddy Durant, and Sam Anderson all added base hits. The Giants received great pitching from Kyle Smith (7 Ks), Sam Anderson (K), and Ippolit Matjucha (5 Ks).  Kyle Smith turned in a defensive gem of a play for the Giants at shortshop, fielding a sharply hit ground ball, stepped on second base then fired to first for the double play. Phillies’ Jack Garrity allowed four runs in the first but settled down and strike out the side to get out of that inning. Garrity helped himself the next inning with a double and scored a run, and teammate Wilson Sneath had a base hit and scored two runs. Sam Gray pitched three solid innings. Jack Gray contributed to the offense with a base hit and scored a run.

Pirates 8, Astros 0

Nicholas Bettenhauser and James Dillon combined for the shutout as the Pirates defeated the Astros, 8-0. On offense, Dillon helped his own cause by clobbering two home runs and reached base on a base on balls. Henry Warzecha banged out a one-hop double to the fence, draw a walk and was solid behind the plate. Shane George (1B, BB), Jesse Sun (2 BB), Andrew Brown (BB), and James Ewing (BB) all had quality at bats to help the Pirates. The Astros’ several scoring opportunities came on the bats of James Ensley (2B), Jake Titus (1B), Noah Gies (1B) and Jack Carter (1B).  Defensively, Titus, Gies, and George Curry combined for five solid innings on the mound.  Nick Carter made a great catch on a line drive at third base to keep the Astros in the game in the early innings.
