Winter Reflections: An Afternoon With Bach, Schubert, and Brahms

Escape the winter doldrums and experience a wonderful afternoon of music with the Friends of the Goodnow Library. The Friends are presenting a winter concert entitled Winter Reflections: An Afternoon With Bach, Schubert, and Brahms on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 3 PM at First Parish Church, 327 Concord Road, Sudbury.

Back by popular acclaim, the concert will feature performers from the New England Conservatory of Music. The performance will feature Dylan Cohen (viola), Ravani Loushy Kay (violin), Eric Schindler (cello), and August Baik (piano).  Franz Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata, Johannes Brahms Piano Quartet No. 3 in C Minor, Op 60, and selections from Johann Sebastian Bach's Cello Suite No. 4 in E flat major will be performed.

August Baik is a 20 year old pianist and composer, from Seattle, Washington. Currently studying with Stephen Drury at the New England Conservatory, he has appeared as soloist with the Virtuosi Bruneses Orchestra in Italy, Cascade Symphony, Bellevue Symphony, and Tacoma Symphony, and has performed in major venues including NEC’s Jordan Hall, Benaroya Hall, Sala dei Notari, Basilica di San Pietro, Sauder Concert Hall and Hahn Hall. August also has multiple recordings on NPR Music’s Live Sessions. He will begin touring Washington State and New York with the Takács Quartet violist, Richard O’Neill in the spring of 2026.

Eric Schindler, age 21 from Seattle, Washington is currently studying for his bachelor’s degree in cello performance with Laurence Lesser at New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts. He has performed as a soloist with the Seattle Festival Orchestra, Philharmonia Northwest Orchestra, and the Seattle Youth Chamber Orchestra. Eric held principal positions in the NEC Symphony Orchestra, Boston Apollo Ensemble, Aspen Music Festival Special Event Ensembles, Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Washington All-State and All-Northwest Symphony Orchestras. In 2025, he advanced to the Final Round for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra cello audition. Eric is currently a student section cellist with the Boston Philharmonic, and the principal cellist of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra directed under Benjamin Zander.

Ravani Loushy Kay is known for his memorable connection with the violin. As part of his professional training, Ravani pursues a BM with prof. Miriam Fried on a Dean’s scholarship at the New England Conservatory in Boston. As a soloist, Ravani has performed with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra and others. In addition, he has performed solo and chamber recitals at major venues across the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, as well as in Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem and more. As a chamber musician, he was the 1st violinist of Stern Quartet coached mainly by Sergei Bresler from the Jerusalem Quartet for several years. In addition to recitals, the quartet was invited to festivals in the Netherlands and recorded regularly for live radio broadcasts. Throughout his life as a musician, Ravani has performed as concertmaster of several orchestras such as NEC Symphony Orchestra, The young Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Thelma-Yellin Symphony.

Dylan Cohen, born in Chesapeake, Virginia, is the first musician in his family. He currently attends the Boston Conservatory of Music studying under Paul Laraia, and has previously studied at the New England Conservatory under Mai Motobuchi’s tutelage. He is a member of BYPO under Maestro Zander’s baton and has appeared as a soloist with the Apollo Ensemble of Boston, Bay Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Western Branch High School Orchestra. He has done masterclasses with Carol Rodland, Masumi Per Rostad, Yuchen Lu, and had lessons with cellist Leland Ko. His recent awards are as follows: Massachusetts Viola Society Viola Competition, 2024, First Place, Bay Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, First place, 2023, Disney World Chamber Music Competition, First place, 2023. Dylan was selected as a top member of the Boston Conservatory to participate in the US Tour of the West-Germany-based Camerata Louis Spohr and perform with them in Jordan Hall.

Seating will be first come, first served. Free parking is available at First Parish Church or across the street behind Sudbury Town Hall.
