Camp Sewataro Will Soon Be Open For Public Use

Sudbury has for months been working on upgrading the property to make it suitable for public access.

SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury's Camp Sewataro will open for public use beginning in July, although the hours will be reduced due to the summer camp onsite.

Starting July 1, Sewataro will be open to the public from 6 p.m. to dusk, and all day long on weekends. Local residents can park at the bottom of the hill near the entrance to the camp property. Pets are not allowed on the property.

Sudbury invited the public to tour the 44-acre Sewataro property in mid-November during an open house. But the property has been mostly closed since then. The town has been adding fencing and other upgrades to make it suitable for public use.

The town elected to buy the property in 2019 for $11 million. Since then, the town has hired a management company to oversee the property and run the camp. The town expects the property to generate about $345,000 in revenue each year.

The camp is set to open for the 2020 season at the end of June, and camp runs through Aug. 21. Day camps are allowed to reopen under Gov. Charlie Baker's phase 2 coronavirus reopening plan, which began on June 8.
