Daniel Carty Ekes Out Win For Selectmen Seat In Sudbury Special Election

More than 20 percent of voters turned out for the special election to name a new selectman for the town.

SUDBURY, MA—With a vacated seat on Sudbury's Board of Selectmen, residents headed to the polls on Tuesday, May 9, to vote in a replacement.

Daniel E. Carty beat out his two contenders, winning the seat with 1,320 votes. Janie Wilson Dretler bit at Carty's heels with 1,269 votes and Evans Carter drew 102 votes.

The three ran to fill the seat vacated by Chuck Woodard.

The Special Town Election was held at two locations. Precincts 1, 2 and 5 voted at the Fairbank Community Center, 40 Fairbank Road, and Precincts 3 & 4 voted at the the Town Hall, 322 Concord Road. The polls were open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. There were 2819 votes cast, representing 22 percent of the town's 12,545 registered voters. The final tabulation was done at the Town Hall.
