Diaper Drive, A Metrowest Partnership

Sudbury Cooperative Preschool partnering with A Place to Turn

For the first time, the Sudbury Cooperative Preschool will be partnering with A Place to Turn to host an ambitious diaper drive during the entire month of April. The need for diapers in the Metrowest area is something that is not often addressed but one which is a huge problem for struggling families with small children.

Eva Benda, Coordinator of The Diaper Project, states “About 3,000 low income families in Framingham and Natick alone struggle to provide their babies and toddlers with diapers. No federal or state programs are available to purchase diapers. Low income families often find themselves making choices between purchasing medicine or diapers or paying the utility bill.”

The Sudbury Cooperative Preschool hopes to collect 4,200 diapers which would be 50% of the total goal of the campaign. Director of the school Britta Rieser, says “We’re making a dent in what is a large issue. More importantly however, we are involving the children and families in our efforts as a way to educate and bring awareness to the community.”

The Diaper Project at A Place To Turn in Natick helps provide financially stressed families in 20 Metrowest communities with diapers to keep their babies clean, dry and healthy. In 2018, it distributed 80,460 diapers to 1128 families.

The Sudbury Cooperative Preschool is a unique, family-centered learning environment. It is a community of trusted adults working together for the education of each child. Children learn through engaging activities that tap into their natural curiosity and inquisitiveness. We take pride in being a cooperative and conduct our school in a socially responsible manner, with respect for our children and their families, our educators, and our community. www.sudburycoop.org
