Dominating Win for Girls Volleyball Team
Warriors improve to 2-0 as strong service game leads them to victory
The second game of the Lincoln-Sudbury girls volleyball season had the same result as its first — a victory on its home floor.
The Warriors never trailed the entire match, defeating Weston 3-0 in sets in a match dominated by the Lincoln-Sudbury serving attack.
The Warriors (2-0) won the first two sets by scores of 25-5 and 25-13. The team began the third set by going on a 15-0 run, resulting in an easy third-set win over Weston (0-1) by a score of 25-5.
In that third set, junior Whitney LaRow, a setter, rattled off 15 straight points on her serve before Weston could even win a point of its own. Senior Emily Rudder and sophomore Mandy Sifferlen saw their spikes constantly hit the Weston side of the floor throughout the set, as well.
"Our serving was a real strong point for us today," said head coach Judy Katalina.
In the second set, strong play from Meghan Sanford and Emily Siegal paved the way for the L-S attack. Sanford began the set with four straight points on her serve in part of a 14-6 run, and Siegal had several kills herself.
In the first set, L-S began with 10-3 run before Weston called one of their often used timeouts. Seniors Kayla Ngan, Meaghan Simons and Lindsey Jones were exceptionally strong setting the tone early, and proving that they were going to be too much for Weston to handle all afternoon long.
With dominating performances like this, Katalina stressed the importance of staying focused.
"We work on individual skills, we set challenges and small goals for ourselves to accomplish," said Katalina. "The players know they are still fighting for starting positions."
Senior Meaghan Simons stressed the importance on continuing to work hard in between matches.
"We need to keep practicing what we have been working on," said Simons.
"We have great chemistry on and off the court," Simons added. "We all get along which is awesome."
