Are you up to the challenge of finding plants that will add pizzazz to the shady areas of your garden? Learn about the different kinds of shade and which plants, shade-loving trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses and fabulous perennials, are best suited to each type at the April 11th meeting of the Sudbury Garden Club.
Suzanne Mahler is an avid gardener, photographer and lecturer. Her columns have appeared in Community Newspapers for more than a decade. An experienced lecturer, she has given presentations at the Arnold Arboretum, the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, Tower Hill Botanic Garden and the New England Spring Flower Show. Past President of the New England Daylily Society and an overseer for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, Suzanne will illustrate design techniques and talk about planning, planting and maintaining shade gardens. The 1.5 acre property surrounding her home in Hanover, MA features extensive collections of perennials, including more than 650 daylily cultivars, 150 varieties of hosta, vast collections of iris, ferns and other perennials. Suzanne’s gardens reflect her passion for growing new and unusual plants with emphasis on maintaining a wildlife habitat that attracts innumerable species of birds and butterflies. Her gardens are designated a National Display Garden for the American Daylily Society and are open to the public during the month of July.
