Conservation Commission Hosts Friday Morning Spring Walk Series

The Sudbury Conservation Commission will be hosting five Friday morning walks on conservation lands in Town.  We will begin the walks on Friday, April 29th at 10:00 am.  Walks will end approximately 12 noon. 

This year’s walks will begin with an easy walk through the Hop Brook conservation land off Dutton Road.  The parking area is located next to 347 Dutton Road. Please park in the gravel area or along the roadway. There is room to pull off the road here.

On the walk we will see extensive beaver activity; a lodge, scent mounds, tree removal, and dams. We will visit a vernal pool to look for frog and salamander eggs. We will look for animal tracks in the mud and sand and see who we can identify. We will discuss the history of the area and see what signs of the past remain visible and give us clues to former uses of the land.

Trails can be muddy in places and footing may be a bit uneven around the pond. Bring appropriate shoes, water, bug spray (ticks are likely), hat, sunscreen, and a sense of exploration and discovery. Kids and leashed dogs are welcomed!  Don’t forget binoculars, cameras, field guides, etc., if you desire.

Please inform the walk leader at the start of the walk if you must be back to your car by noon. Please dress according to the weather. If steady rain or other inclement weather is predicted, a message will be posted on the Town of Sudbury website’s Front Page news by 9am.  If in doubt, please check the website.
