MCC Summer Program for Children - Pandamania!

What happens when a pack of fun-loving panda bears invades your church?  At MCC this summer, it’s a wild celebration of learning about God’s love, purpose, and plan for everyone!  Following the success of its first summer program held last summer, Memorial Congregational Church will conduct its second weeklong summer program, Pandamania!, for children of all ages in June, 2011.

Under the leadership of Minister of Music Cathy Meyer, MCC Pandamania! will be run from Monday June 27 through Friday July 1. The program will lead children of all ages in experiencing Bible stories through engaging physical activities, dramatic presentations, movies, arts and crafts, games, snacks, and daily music with the MCC worship band Covenant.  Developed by Group, Inc, the program is designed to help children explore the stories of the Bible in age-appropriate activities.

The daily Pandamania! program runs from 9:00 – 12:00 AM.  An optional Extended Day program, where kids may continue activities through lunch and into the afternoon until 3:00 PM, is available.

Each day the children meet a Bible Memory Buddy that teaches them a Bible Story and Bible Point.  The children celebrate each Bible Point with the cheer “Thank you God!”.  On Monday, the wild bird Fez tells the story of the Creation, along with the Bible Point ‘God Made You’.  Tuesday’s story of Elijah, and the point ‘God Listens To You’ is told by the raccoon Amanda.  On Wednesday, Boomer the Panda explains that ‘God Watches Over You’ and tells the story of Jonah.  ‘God Loves You, No Matter What’ comes on Thursday when Pogo the leopard relates the story of the resurrection.  Finally on Friday, the story of Hannah’s baby from God, and the Bible Point ‘God Gives Good Gifts’ is delivered by the Rhesus Monkey LuLu.

By the end of the week, children will have learned five core Bible stories in depth through multi-sensory experiences.  Engaging characters, compelling stories, enthusiastic staff and counselors, and non-stop activities keep the children going strong all week long.  Party Time Sing & Play, Crazy Crafts & Missions, Bamboo Blast Games, Chadder’s Movie Manai, Treetop Treats, Wild Bible Adventures, and daily Rowdy Wrap-up.

The senior staff working for Meyer include experienced leaders of last year’s program.  Elizabeth Smith and Michael Staron have worked with Meyer for years on similar programs.  Noyes school 3rd grade teacher Lynn Connor returns to run Crazy Crafts and Missions, where children will make Prayer Pillows for local shelters.  Rev. Tom O’Brien leads the Wild Bible Adventures activity, where children will experience the stories as the really happened.

MCC Church School Superintendent and Sudbury resident Carole Pendleton participated in the program in 2010, and plans to dive in again this year:  “The High Seas Adventure was an exhilarating program for children, teens, and the adults.  We’re really looking forward to the expanded program this year, and feel it’s a unique opportunity for faith discovery.  Not to mention that it’s happening at a church with a rapidly growing congregation that welcomes all!”
