"SIGNATURE QUILTS & the Stories they Tell "
Find out what's happening in Sudburyfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
as told by PAMELA WEEKS on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Sudbury Town Hall.
ALL ARE WELCOME!!
Plenty of time to get home for the SUPERBOWL!!
Pamela Weeks is an Author and the Curator of the New England Quilt Museum, Lowell, MA.
Her paper about Potholder quilts (One Foot Square, Quilted and Bound) appeared in the 2010 edition of Uncoverings. She has recently published two books, one a study of quilts made for Civil War Soldiers, the other on Potholder Quilts.
Pamela will be speaking on SIGNATURE QUILTS, which are also called Friendship Quilts. They are usually quilts made by a group of women, to be given to a neighbor who is moving out of town. Each block usually has a signature of the person making it, and rarely, the date of the construction. Thus, when the recipient looks at the quilt months and years later far from their old loved family and friends, it was like looking at a picture book of all their old friends being remembered.
The Sudbury Historical Society's
1850 Sudbury Friendship/Signature Quilt
and the
1851 Sudbury Friendship/Signature Quilt
will be on display, along with the
2000-2001 Fund raising Quilt
produced in order to raise the funds to pay for the first quilt!
All Sudbury Historical Society, Inc. programs are video-taped, and are available for later viewing on Sudbury Cable, even adjoining towns, or via the Society's web-site: www.sudbury01776.org
