Sudbury Residents Jessica Newman, Nora Telford to Perform in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute Concert

Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream. Almost 50 years later, the singers of the Boston Children's Chorus (BCC) are carrying it forward for future generations.
On Monday, January 16, in partnership with New England Conservatory, the BCC will join special guest performer Melinda Doolittle for "Beloved Community" in Dr. King’s honor, on his national birthday holiday.
In our society, we are often polarized by our differences. The children of the BCC seek to harness the power and joy of music as a catalyst to unite our nation's diverse communities and inspire social change. Coming from communities in and around Boston, these talented singers transcend race and class in pursuit of something greater than themselves. They are honored and proud of their efforts to carry on Dr. King's legacy.

"Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a vision of a world without limits, a world where anyone no matter their race or gender could co-exist in unity. While we still have challenges to reach his dream, it is time to celebrate what successes we have had in this journey," BCC Executive Director David Howse said. "It is in the young that we can clearly see and hear the future of our world."
Singer Melinda Doolittle added, "We have certainly come a long way, but the only way to continue King’s legacy is for each generation to pick up the torch and run with it. I am so honored to not only celebrate Dr. King, but to join with a new generation of dreamers who will make sure his legacy of change, dreams, and hope for a better future never dies."
